a carpenter is just a guy who know and own certain tools, a pianist is just a guy that know how to operate a piano. Almost any profession is basically knowing how to use certain tools (physical or non physical).

There are a lot of companies with twitter or face book accounts that are not active not useful boring annoying. It's not enough to get the tools, you need to know how to use them (or be taught) in exactly the same way that buying a piano doesn't make you a pianist if you don't learn how to use it.

What is the difference then?
Piano or a hammer are tools that existed for hundreds thousands of years. If someone know how to use them well, they are pretty much set for life (as far as professional knowledge goes). while with computer technology anyone who just counts on twitter as a way to make a living will be out of a job in a couple of years, the tools changes much quicker, though the understanding into people, marketing and social interaction will probably still apply on the next twitter face book google wave or whatever the next step in human interaction would be.
