It has been 40 years since David Ben Gurion passed away in 1973, 38 years since the UN declared that Zionism is Racism and 75 years since that Crystal Night in Germany of 1938. It all happened in the 9-10 of November.
On November 9, 1938, the Nazis unleashed a series of riots against the Jews in Germany and Austria. Within a few hours, thousands of synagogues and Jewish businesses and homes were damaged or destroyed. (Yad Va’Shem).
As far as I can see and read, only two official Facebook pages spoke about the Crystal Night: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and MK Eli Ishay from Shas.
The Government is having its annual Ben Gurion/Sde Boker meeting, now commemorating 40 years (in the Hebrew Calendar) to death of the father of the modern state of Israel David Ben Gurion. Many members of Knesset and ministers are facebooking about it.Netanyahu, David Ben Gurion ( Photo: Kobi Gideon, GPO)
Merav Michaeli from the Avoda party is critisizing all governments from 1948 that have neglected the Bedouin settlements and the Israeli citizens who are living there. Israel Katz, minister of transportation and a Likud party member is critisizing the Bedouins themselves for illegal housing and settlements, false marriages with Palestinians and more.
GOV.IL, Israel’s government portal, had this to say about Ben Gurion: Ben Gurion was the leading the leadership of the “future state”, leading and driving the establishment of Israel, he declared the the independence of the state and led Israel as prime minister for 15 years.
Ben- Gurion established the sovereignty of the new state and based it on the principle of statehood. He aspired to unite people around a common culture perceived by the “melting pot”. In his term as prime minister, he decided that the IDF will be the “people’s army” and unification of all educational denominations under one state system.
Ben – Gurion believed the future of the Jewish community is in the Negev and in December 1953, after he resigned as Prime Minister, he moved into a hut built for him at Kibbutz Sde Boker, where he worked in hutch, setting an example that for everyone that the individual can make the desert bloom. Ben Gurion died at 87.
MK Isaak Herzog who runs for the Avoda leadership and who is the son of former president Haim Herzog wrote this morning about his father’s famous speech at the UN while he was Israel’s ambassador there:
“In 75 when I was 15 my father was appointed Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations. Me and my family were sent on a mission, to represent the State of Israel in New York for three years. Diplomacy wise, those were turbulent years. The Cold War, the energy crisis, the talks with Egypt. The peak of this period (for me) is my father’s famous speech, on this day 38 years following UN Resolution 3379 which states that “Zionism is a form of racism and racial discrimination”, then, 37 years after Kristallnacht (the Crystal Night, NC), my father stood on the podium of the United Nations and tore the UN 3379 paper.
